What is actually included in astudent move?
A student move is a small job with a hard deadline. The volume is low, but the building has given you a slot, the whole street is moving the same week, and the stairs are usually the problem rather than the mileage.
You get the same service a full house move gets — the crew, the van, the fuel and the drive — priced for the volume you actually have. There is no minimum order and no student surcharge.
Every booking includes £50,000 of goods-in-transit cover as standard. We are not a marketplace and we are not a broker, so the crew at your door is ours.
A crew, not just a van
Every move includes at least two people. Nobody carries a mattress down a Victorian staircase on their own, and nobody charges you extra for the second pair of hands.
A price fixed before you book
Your figure comes from your volume and your distance, and it does not change on the day — however many flights of stairs turn out to be between the van and the room.
Blankets on everything
Desks, mattresses, monitors and anything with a screen go into the van wrapped rather than stacked loose. A term's worth of kit travels better protected than it does in a car boot.

Seven days a week
Including bank holidays, and at the same fixed price. Changeover falls on weekends, which is exactly when most firms charge more and we do not.

Tenancy dates slip and landlords change their minds. Move your date up to 24 hours beforehand, or cancel free up to 72 hours beforehand.
How pricing works
How do we price astudent move?
Volume, access and distance — the same three things that price a family house move, applied to a single room. Small jobs are priced as small jobs.
Three things — and nothing else
Access does more to a student move than to almost any other kind. Four flights in a Jesmond terrace with no lift and nowhere to put the van is a longer job than a full flat with a loading bay, whatever the volume says.

Six shapes, and the building decides which one you have. What changes between them is the access, not the care.
The Bailey colleges, Durham
Castle, Hatfield, St John's, St Chad's and St Cuthbert's sit on a narrow one way street inside the World Heritage Site, in buildings that are centuries old. Stairs, no lift, no parking at the door and a tight window. These are planned, not improvised.
The Hill colleges, Durham
Van Mildert, Collingwood, Grey, St Aidan's, Trevelyan and Josephine Butler on Elvet Hill and South Road. Better vehicle access, longer carries from the car park, and everybody leaving on the same weekend.
Purpose-built halls
Mount Oswald, Sheraton Park, Ernest Place and the Newcastle city-centre blocks. Modern sites with proper access, strict move-out slots, and loading bays and lifts that need booking with the building rather than with us.
The Durham HMO belt
Gilesgate, Claypath, Crossgate, Hallgarth Street, New Elvet and the streets under the viaduct. Terraced houses, four to six students, no driveway, and everyone moving the same week.
Newcastle's two universities
A large, synchronised moving population across Jesmond, Heaton, Sandyford and Shieldfield. Changeover concentrates in June and September, and in those weeks van availability across NE2 and NE6 tightens for everyone.
The gap between tenancies
Most lets end in June and start in September, which leaves a summer to bridge. We can store what you are not taking home and bring it back for the new address.

What actually happenson moving day?
Five stages. Most of it is decided before the van sets off, which is what keeps a changeover-weekend move from turning into a queue on the pavement.

Both postcodes and what you are moving. The figure comes back on screen in about two minutes, and it is the figure you pay.
Tell us about the access
Which floor, whether there is a lift, and whether the van can reach the door. In halls, tell us the move-out slot the building has given you.
The slot is confirmed
Twenty-four hours' notice is enough, though changeover weekends fill first. Book as soon as your tenancy date is confirmed.
Wrapped, labelled and loaded
Everything is blanket-wrapped and labelled for where it is going. Someone needs to be there to give the crew access at both ends.
Unloaded where you say
Boxes into the room you point at rather than left in a hallway. If part of it is going into storage, that leg is booked at the same time.
Where do we movestudents from?
Our yard is on Rolling Mill Road in Jarrow, so Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland are all short runs. We cover moves up to roughly 150 miles for the trip home.
