Access. A Tyneside flat in Jarrow with a shared front door and a turn at the top of the stairs takes longer than a Boldon semi with a driveway, even with identical contents. Terraces around Westoe and central South Shields have no driveway and on street parking only. Larger homes in Cleadon and East Boldon usually add a loft, a garage and a garden to the count.

How do I arrange parking for a removal van in South Tyneside?
Arrange it with South Tyneside Council before moving day, not on the morning. Parking is the single most common reason a move in NE33 or NE32 starts late.
South Tyneside Council can suspend parking bays outside your property for a removal. Suspended bays are marked with cones and temporary signs, and vehicles that ignore them can be issued a penalty charge notice.

Tell us what you have arranged when we call. If a suspension is not possible, we plan the carry distance into the job instead of discovering it on the day.
Two things that catch people out
You cannot park your own car in the bay you have suspended, because the terms of the suspension do not allow it. And dispensation is granted at the Parking Team’s discretion, so it is not automatic.
If you live on a street covered by a Resident Permit Scheme, dispensation will not be issued to visitors. Your removal crew needs the suspension or a visitor permit instead.
How much notice do you need to book a move?
We need 24 hours’ notice as a minimum. If your completion date lands on you at short notice, we can usually still move you.
You can change your move date up to 24 hours before it. Chains slip and completions move, and we would rather move your date than lose your move. Cancellations are free up to 48 hours before the move.
We work seven days a week including bank holidays, so a Saturday completion is not a problem.

Holborn Riverside
The former docks at South Shields have full consent for 300 new homes. Phases one and two delivered 135 houses and apartments, all sold and occupied. The final phase adds 47 homes from Keepmoat and 109 from Cussins, with 24 affordable homes through Bernicia. That is a steady flow of move ins a few minutes from the town centre, mostly first time buyers and families trading up.
The college move
South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School are relocating from the Westoe site into a new town centre campus with student accommodation. That changes where student moves start and finish, and it frees up a large site at Westoe.
Commuting out
Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland are all inside half an hour, and North Tyneside is one tunnel away. Plenty of people buy in South Tyneside on price and commute out, which is why cross river moves through the Tyne Tunnel are routine for us rather than an exception.
