Man with a Van in Sunderland
From a single sofa in Millfield to a small flat move in Roker, YourVans runs a man with a van service across Sunderland, including Washington, Houghton-le-Spring and Hetton. We come down from our yard in Jarrow on the A19.
Why Sunderland suits a man with a van
Sunderland is compact and largely low rise, so carries are often short and doorstep loads are common. That is good news for small jobs. A move from Millfield to Silksworth is a short one, and a single item across the city is a quick trip. The parts that need thought are the terraces, the student areas and which bridge you are crossing.
Terraces with no driveways
Hendon, Millfield and the streets off Chester Road are terraced with no driveways. The back lanes behind the Hendon and Millfield terraces are tight and often part blocked, so we check which side actually loads. Tell us if the back lane is clear.
Student areas around the university
Millfield, Pallion, Barnes and High Barnes in SR4 sit close to the University of Sunderland campuses, with permit pressure that tightens during changeover weeks in September. If you are moving into or out of a student house, book early for those weeks. Our student removals service covers term-time moves in more detail.
Crossing the Wear
Anything crossing the river depends on which bridge is moving. The Northern Spire, opened in 2018, links Castletown on the north bank with Pallion on the south, joining the A1231 Wessington Way. Alongside the Queen Alexandra and Wearmouth bridges, it gives us options when one route is slow.
Match days and the city centre
Match days bring congestion around the Stadium of Light in SR5. In the city centre around Keel Square, short-stay bays are no use for a move and the road layout has been changing with construction work. If you need a bay suspended, Sunderland City Council can suspend bays or issue a dispensation, but applications run in working days, so start early.
Washington
Washington is the opposite of the terraces: a new town built around driveways and parking courts. Loading is easy, but the village layouts can be easy to misread from a map.
Typical jobs in Sunderland
- Furniture collections. Something bought from a shop or a private seller, brought to your door. For bigger furniture jobs see furniture removals in Sunderland.
- Single items. A bed, a wardrobe or a table across the city.
- Small flat moves. Flats and rented homes where the volume is small.
- Student moves. Between student housing and home.
- Seafront moves. At Roker and Seaburn the problem is the weather rather than the street. Wind catches wrapped items on exposed seafront loading.
